Travel light – packing advice

“How can you travel with only one small carry-on bag?” Many people (especially women) think that you can never bring everything you need. As an example, I will show you exactly what I bring and how I pack.

This is what I brought on a recent two week trip to Greece (for a writing retreat) and Tbilisi, Georgia (for a conference). I was prepared for both warm and cold weather, city and nature, work and leisure, with these ‘ingredients’:

  • flip flop sandals
  • 2 pairs of sneakers
  • sports outfit
  • jumping rope
  • jeans, shorts
  • a dress, a skirt
  • 6 tops
  • 3 t-shirts
  • 1 blouse
  • a vest
  • leather jacket
  • down jacket
  • scarf
  • handbag
  • toiletry bag
  • bikini and underwear (not in photo)
  • snorkel
  • sunglasses
  • and of course my macbook
  • external harddisk
  • private wifi (I am trying out We-Stream)
  • the book I am updating
  • my kindle
  • phone
  • lots of cables and chargers

It all fits in a carry-on bag (rolling your clothes is the secret to packing), which makes getting on and off planes and out of airports fast a breeze! Check out the Agile Travel Packing Cube I use.

By the way I still feel I carry way too much stuff… In the video you see how I pack everything in my Eagle Creek bag.

What do you pack for travel, and how?
